Hippocrates / Knowledge Management for the Trainers in the Healt Field
test

The Project

Background

The current European social-economic situation requires individuals working in the training sector - and in the health sector in particular - to re-consider their role, and move further on from the earlier concept of training only to be able to transfer skills and knowledge related to one specific specialist profession.
Trainers in the Health Sector need to acquire a wider and more complex vision which allows them to “manage their own skills” and respond to the continual evolution of the social-environmental factors and therefore of training needs.

Objectives

The Hippocrates project aims to involve Hospitals, training agencies, no-profit associations, trainers and experts in a common effort in order to enhance the application of Knowledge management methodologies to the Health sector.

The Hippocrates project aims in particular to:

• Identify training needs of trainers working in the health sector concerning the application of Knowledge Management methodologies
• Promote the sharing of best practices available in Europe in the application of Knowledge Management within the health sector
• Provide health sector trainers with the necessary skills to manage their knowledge effectively, allow them to systematically update their skills and, if possible, anticipate the evolution of training. This will be done via a dedicated “online training path”
• Create at European level a community of trainers working in the Health Sector in order to encourage them to share their skills and experience.

Target Groups

The main target group of the project are trainers who work in the Health Sector who are directly involved in the project’s activities: needs analysis, identification of best practice and development and testing of the training package.
The trainers benefit from the participation to the project as they will acquire the necessary skills to manage their knowledge in order to face effectively the rapid changes of their role.

Activities

Analysis Of Trainers’ Needs
The Analysis is carried out in each of the four countries of the project using a common agreed methodology and ad hoc developed common tools (questionnaire, grid for self knowledge assessment).
The Analysis involves a significant sample of trainers working in health sectors, representing different work environments (e.g. hospitals, universities and public health organisations).

Creation of the Database of Best Practice of Knowledge Management
Each partner carries out research both at national and at transnational level focusing on the on going best practices regarding the application of Knowledge Management for trainers in the health field.
Best practices are analysed and commented, through common tools and published on the project’s portal.

Development of a Training Package for Trainers Operating in the Health Field
The partnership, on the basis of the results emerging from the Transnational report of needs analysis of the Trainers and of the database of best practices and experience, develop a training package, focusing on the application of Knowledge Management to the Health Sector.

Creation of a Virtual Community for Trainers
In the second year of the project the partners will be committed to the creation and enhancement of a Virtual Community for trainers working in the Health Sector.
During the Testing of the Training Package, Virtual conferences and a Forum will be created and moderated, so as to promote among trainers involved in the project, a transnational discussion and the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Expected Results

The main expected results that the Hippocrates Project makes available are:

  1. The publication of a transnational report on training needs of trainers in the health field concerning Knowledge Management highlighting the common significant aspects and elements, emerged at national level.
  2. The availability onto the project portal of a Collection of Best Practice giving opportunity to trainers to learn about the best existing methodologies and experiences available in Europe in the application of Knowledge Management fielding particular in the Health Sector.
  3. The availability of a training package allowing trainers to be independent in comparing their skills with the needs of the context in which they operate in, and to create their own individual "skills manager" training path in order to adapting their skills to the identified needs.
  4. A specific section dedicated to creating a virtual community for trainers and experts where they will have the opportunity to add and share experiences, problems, successes and material as well as accessing training packages that are developed during the project.
